"Chuck Taylors are going to be around forever. The Egyptian Empire left the Pyramids, the Roman Empire left the Colosseum, I think when America is gone... Chuck Taylors will still be around."

A personal and public history of shoes that ROCK.
Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers are some of the most recognizable and beloved footwear in the world. What is it about them that makes them so cool for so many people?
Written and performed by Joan Cummins, Converse(ations) is a one-woman show that brings the audience into a dialogue about identity and the past through Joan's personal history of wearing these American icons.
It’s a show about how people have used Chucks to shape who they are, tracing the history of their journey to sneaker super stardom, but also asking the hard questions about culture, objects, and identity.
CONVERSE(ATIONS) premiered on April 7 - 8, 2017 at Solly's U Street Tavern. The original run was workshopped with Joan Cummins by DISTRICT MISFITS members Shane Solo, Toni Rae Salmi, Brittany Alyse Willis, and Mike Salmi.

who we are
DISTRICT MISFITS is a DC performing arts collective dedicated to providing a creative home for artists who don’t always fit a particular genre and rebelling against any system that expects them to.
We want to conspire with people of all disciplines to create and unleash experiences that cultivate a sense of community for the artists and audiences we bring together.
